Fuel Pump gauge Flashing

Question I have a 1998 Isuzu Rode Just bought new Fuel pump from Auto Parts Way. Had pump replaced by a mechanic. Now the truck is still hard to start and the feul gauge light is flashing. I put Gas in te tank and the light still flashes, So I had the Mechanil check the pump and wiring. All is good. So I called the Dealer and they say that I have th have the ECU reprogramed. Does this sound right. They say it take approx 1 to 1.5 hrs to do this. There is no code flashing and the check engine light is not on. Can any one tell me if this will work. Or how to reprogram myself I do not have a computer/which is used to read or Trouble shooting or rest Do the ones Canadian tire do this?. Thanks Tom

Re: Fuel Pump gauge Flashing

Did the mechanic properly installed the fuel sending unit? You can remove neg wire from battery and attach it after fifteen minutes that would reset computer.

Re: Fuel Pump gauge Flashing

Some model years need to have the ECU reprogramed when the FSU is replaced. I dont know which years though. When I did the one for my '99 it didnt need reprogramed. I would think the '98 would be exactly the same as mine. Something doesnt sound right.

You have to go to the dealer for reprograming, there is no way to do it yourself and just resetting the computer wont work. I take it you are in canada, if thats the case you can take it to a honda dealer since there arent isuzu dealers there anymore. Rodeo is the same as honda passport.

Re: Fuel Pump gauge Flashing

If you haven't had the ABS recall done on the vehicle yet they may give you a break on the reprogramming since it will be hooked up already, but there are no guarantees there. My '99 didn't have any problems when replacing the FSU.

Service Bulletin No. SB03-09-S001D
ABS, COIL INTEGRATED MODULE REPLACEMENT - 2WD & 4WD - SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN No. 02I-002

I dont know if it applies to Canada but I would think so.

No. I Have the one Canadian tire sells for 160.00 to 200.00 dollars. It only will diagnose and clear codes.
The one needed to program the ecu goes for about 8000.00 from what I hear.

Best to send it in to a Saturn dealership and have it done.

The abs recall applies to Canada. I had it done.
