Looking at a 1989 S2 with 82,000 miles, has had Recent Water Pump, Timing Belt, Clutch, owner wants around $8000 and I have no idea what it is worth. Is this a fair price? Is this car dependable enough to handle an occasional Road Racing Driver's School? Thanks in Advance

944 S2
Sounds like a good deal, check the body to see if its ok also check engine to see what it looks like (beat, or great). If you were thinking about a track car i would go with the 944 Turbo, 944 S, 944, or the 944 951. Basically because they are coupes. Turbos would be a fine car to tune and put on a track. I have a list of things that could be done and some prices. A normal 944 or the 944 S would be a good car because you can tune that very well too. Just put a stage III supercharger in and you will have at least a 70% increase hp from stock. E-mail me at [email protected]

Have a friend who races a 944 turbo. All he has done is increase the boost pressure to approx. 2 bar with a chip and exhaust and some upgraded tranny work. He doesn't actually race it (sorry for the contradiction), but does exactly what you said - uses it at driving schools and the occasional porsche owners club track day. Fairly reliable, especially for running the turbo at such high boost. To answer the second question, I don't really think it is worth 8g's, but I am no expert. Check other sources for prices to get an idea (as you probably have already done).
