96 Lumina Gas Smell/Brake Lights
Im currently the second owner of a 1996 Lumina Ive had it for a year and about a month ago both brake lights went out. i checked the bulbs and some of the wiring the middle brake light works fine and so does my signals am I stilll looking at a multi-swith problem in the steering column???
Another thing out side of the car you can smell a gas odor that has gotten significantly stronger in the past couple weeks. no leeks on the ground at all. The bottom is pretty rusted(its an older car) but it doesnt seem to be corroded through. Any thoughts or help anyone can offer would be great thanks.. MAtt |

Re: 96 Lumina Gas Smell/Brake Lights
a lot of times the o-ring on the fuel pump sending unit, where it seals at the top under the ring, has a high degree of f'ups and can cause the smell. if there arent any leaks that could be your culprit. and the multifunction switch is probably whats going on with your brake lights. but it could still be the brake light switch.
