Intermittent odometer

My odometer/tripometer stops working after I’ve been driving for a while, sometimes 20 miles, other times 30 miles, other times longer, but no real pattern. I reset the tripometer and it returns to 0 and stays there. They both begin working again after the car has sat for an extended period of time (longer than say a ½ hour.)

Is there something I can grease before it dies all together or am I looking at a new instrument cluster? If anybody has any idea what this might be, I’d appreciate your advice.

I have a 1995 Maxima SE with more than 185k and less than 200k, but no one will ever know exactly. <sigh>

Possible life extension: Open the assy and spray electronics cleaner on the odometer mechanism. If u think u can mete (thin) lubricant with toothpick on the rollinnumber's 'bearings', do so. Microscopic amount...
