Help with installing a head unit in a 2002 xterra se s/c

I took my old 6 CD changer out to replace it with the head unit from my old car which is an aftermarket pioneer but I ran into a problem. The wiring harness I purchased to tie into the stock wiring harness on the xterra fits okay but it runs through the amp and for some reason i can make my new head unit power up but nothing comes out of the speakers! I am thinking about just cutting and spilicing the speaker wires sepreatly b/c the stereo has a built in 50w amp and that's enough for my sattelites anyways. If anybody has a better solution please drop me a line at [email protected] or post a response.

I have a 2002 xe s/c and I am debating putting the gear from my last car in it. I figured to start with the head unit etc but after getting the panel etc off I realized the fosgate stuff is also stuck in behind there.

If you got anywhere with your install I would love ot hear the details. Also is there a harness/faceplate to make a 1 din head unit sit look factory?

The hardest part of my install was the head unit . Actually finding the best looking head unit that fit well without gaps was the worst. I tried 3 kits from 3 manufactures all claiming that it would fit my 02 X . The best kit was also the cheapest . It came from www.crutchfield.com . I used Metra , fast kits...etc head install kits none worked or they had large gaps between the trim and the head unit. The one from Crutchfield also has a half din storage compartment to make it look like a 02 Altime stereo. I installed an Alpine head unit , MB Quart seperate componants from and rear. and a Jl 10 W7. Needless to say it cranks, I also only lost 1 cubic foot of cargo space, for 160 decibles that aint a problem.

you will find a couple of other threads and posts about this, but when installing an aftermarket head unit into stock Rockford Fosgate setup for a 02-04 SE xterra, you will need to bypass the amp. All of the speakers are wired into the factory RF amplifier. Chances are, only a stock RF head unit will interface with this amp (that's why you are getting no sound.) You will need to pin-out all of the speakers on the RF amplifier harness to find the speaker connections, then basically reroute them into the pins on the head unit harness. PITA for sure. another alternative is an FM modulator where you'll lose about half of the sound quality.... or you can mod your head unit.

for those of you with 02-04 xterra se rockford fosgate systems, there is a technical mod for your head unit to accept a true AUX input. I'll be posting instructions later on this week, hopefully.
