heater fan only working on high

In post back in August concerning a heater fan only working on high, the following information was provided

==================================================

Follow this link and it will give you all the information you need to replace that part yourself. The dealer part runs around $13-$16. Total time to fix is about 10-15 minutes.

If you cannot open that message forum, you may need to sign up (free) with the dodgeforums to open that message.

The Dodge Forum site has this link removed. Does anyone have informatin on what part is needed to fix this problem or where I can go to obtain more information?

Thanks

It has not been removed. Dodgeforum has re-organized their site. In the Durango section, they split that section into general area, then 1st generation durangos, and 2nd generation durangos. That fan problem has been moved to the 1st generation section. I do not know the part number offhand, but the name of that part is called a resistor pack for your internal blower motor.

My durango is a 1999 and the resistor pack rear end sticks through the engine fire wall with access only by pulling the instrument panel and some other hardware behind it. I bought one to replace (just because I was going to be in there) for the motor replacement that had gone all the way bad. It was just too much more work for the time I had & the coils looked good (not discolored). $22 at a dealership an hour away and the only one in stock for the whole city. You can see them with a mirror if you remove the access cowling where the wiper protrude. I didn't see any other way to get to it. By the way, Carquest had a blower moter for $49 that pumps air a lot better than the old one ever did. Dealership prices ranged from $120 on up. Very important here in Phoenix, AZ. Have had this truck since 12,000 miles and it's like getting a whole new vehicle.

Re: heater fan only working on high

My '98 blower motor died, and the R & R for it was about 6 hours!!! As long as they had the entire freaking dash out, I had the resistor pack and A/C evap replaced too. The Durango has been a really good vehicle all things considered, with 160K on it and many of those miles towing. But Man, the engineers who laid it out really missed the boat. I had the oil pan/sludge problem, and the blower, both of which turned out to be very costly and should never have been a problem to start with!!!
