ls head on d15 :)

I was looking on ebay at heads and cams and an idea struck me. What if I put an Integra ls D16 DOHC head on my engine? Because just imagine ,if it is possible, the torque and hp gains But a problem arose. It' has two cams and I have a d15 with only one cam Besides the machining needed to make it fit right what else would I need to get this to work if it's possible? But I do wonder why if it is possible why this is not common practice by others with d15 motors. maybe because no one plans on keeping them despite the fact that these motors still have decent hp potential.

I've never heard or seen a dohc on a sohc motor, I guess you could be the first.

D16y8

What about a D16y8 head? would this get higher gains than just adding V-TEC?

Integra Ls motor is a B series, it wont fit on a D series motor. Unless it was the D16a8/a9. Then i dont know if it will fit. It wouldnt be hard to swap in either a D16z6/y8 from the 92-95 or the 96-00 ex civics...

Go to a junk yard and pick up a D16y8 motor for about $500 and drop that sucker in there.

Re: ls head on d15 :)

the old integras have a D series engine...its a d16a8 or d16a9 and yes the head from one of those engines would fit on the sohc engine you have im guessing d15b7...but it would probably be cheaper to get the complete d16a8 engine from www.hmotorsonline.com its 450 dollars and shipping for me was i think 185.

but if you wanted to just swap out the head, then your going to have to get the head from a junkyard or ebay or wherever and go to advance auto, autozone, pepboys, wherever you get your parts and get the timing belt for the d16a1/2 (86-89 integra) and thats all i can think of doing off the top of my head, hit me up on aim if you have more questions about it...outlawxedge or pm me

Re: ls head on d15 :)

Check post dates please, this thread is over 2½ years old. And more than likely it'd be illegal to put an older engine into a newer car. Not to mention, the y8 would be a better choice for performance anyways.

Re: ls head on d15 :)

also, isnt he wrong anyways, a DOHC D16a8 head wont bolt onto a D15b block even if they are both d series...

at least thats whaty ive assumed to be true, as well as read on here a few times, as well as when looking at my DOHC ZC compared to my D15b7, they didnt look like theyd interchange.
