Re: how to start drifting
first get an LSD, next tune your suspension to have little body roll, next find a comfortable low stance with appropriate spring rates(ie no bumpsteering pancakes) then go out and purchase the "drift bible" from option videos and learn to drift.

-If you cant drift an Open your a suckass and shouldnt be paying 900$ for a clutch type - If you pay 900$ for an LSD for a drift only car your wasting your money -VLSDs do not count as True Limited Slips -Welded Diffs work perfect for drifting (blah Blah "Turn In" Blah Blah) Quote:

on a further note - WTF is a Bumpsteering Pancake? Quote:
I Pray to god your kidding but your lack of an "LOL" and other generic magazine comments tells me otherwise. All you need to drift is A RWD Car with basic maintence..................Check Enough Power to Spin 2nd around a corner....Check Some Balls/Lots of money or a drifting event... Its around find it. ***Extra Points awarded for practicing drifting at autcrosses since they get their panties in a bunch*** at an event... Dont try to do it like a pro your first time with 100mph e-brake entrys your first time and if way late power over exits is all you feel comfortable with then go with it. You'll get used to it and likely you can get someone there with more experience tell you how you should practice to get better. |

Re: how to start drifting
you should learn how to performance drive first.
learn racing lines and such, and drive your car to learn when the car transitions to oversteer (parking lot or at an evernt, track whatever). dont try to drift on purpose, find out when your car starts to drift from pushing too hard. then go practice techniques like donuts and 180 turns, etc

Re: how to start drifting
find an autocross event near you, enter it for a cheap price, learn the limit of your car, since here all you'll be hitting is a cone or two, then you can try sliding and modifying.

Re: how to start drifting
driftk1d is right, be able to take a proper line through a corner and then learn to slip the end while maintaining that line....

Re: how to start drifting
first i didnt say go installing double wishbones or anything i just said a nice ride height thats lower than stock and has less body roll i didnt say create a d1 car and try and drift. but i feel that this argument of learning to drift stock being better is best summed up like surfboarding...NO its not the same thing. why not just learn the short board first instead of learning on some easier bigger board and then relearn it for a performance model. learning to drift on stock shocks and springs is a pain you get way to much body roll which equals more weight on the top half of your car is moving(maybe just a strut bar set would be better than say sway bars) but going on stock just means your body moves a crapload and puts more weight on 1 tire in particular increasing your chances of blowing it out.
and a bumpsteering pancake is something most of the homeboy ricers like to do....which means u drop ure shit on the ground and look stupidly low, goto your local highschool ull see a few

Tires pop when drifting from a combination of running em down to the cords and the high heat building tire pressure. load has very little to do with it. Quote:

ok and what kind of conditions do you think driftings creates on a tires. add an increased load on 1 tire instead of 2 and your bound to improve your chances of a blow out. as for finding out if u like drifing....man who wouldnt...i only have this pos fwd eclipse and i still love sliding through corners ..hell i love it.
