just bought a 93 wrangler

last night I picked up a 93 wrangler, it's got the 4.0 6cyl, with 5spd manual trans. the spedo and odometer do not currently work. dose anyone know if the 93's used a actuail spedo cable, or if they use a sensor ???
thanks,
Keith

Mine doesn't work, either. I have a '93 Wrangler with a 2.5 / 5-speed. Must be kinda common. I believe these Jeeps have a speed sensor, and electronic speedometer, not a cable. I haven't fixed mine yet, so I'm not positive, but that's what I was told.

Re: just bought a 93 wrangler

I had the same problem on my 92 and found the problem to be the printed circuit on the back of the speedo.
I just made a jumper and fixed mine.

pat8942,
could you give me some more information on those jumpers you made?
thanks,
Keith

I'm attaching a diagram to help you locate the problem.
On mine I had no ignition feed to the speedo so I made a jumper to connect the ignition feed from the tach to the ignition feed of the speedo and tucked the wire in the groove at the bottom of the cluster.
You can use an ohm meter to check continuity between the plug and the speedo and that will tell you how to fix it.
Hope this helps

Re: just bought a 93 wrangler

go under the jeep and locate the speed sensor, if its a cable, then its a cable, if there are just wires, then its not a cable....

Re: just bought a 93 wrangler

well, I did finally get around to crawling under it to check out the spedo. it's just wires and a sensor, and the wires all look to be ok under the jeep. hopefully this weekend I'll have time to pull the dash and check the wires there.

pat8942, thanks for the diagram, I'll check that out this weekend as well. hopefully putting in a jumper will take care of it, but if not, I think I may need to find a new spedo.

Re: just bought a 93 wrangler

many thanks to pay8942!!!!
I pulled the part of the dash with the spedo, tach, and message display, and installed a jumper like you described in the diagram, and my spedo is now working again.
thanks again,
Keith
