V6/V8 maintenance

apparently V8's have a lot of maintenance problems on this board. Is that typical of all V8 camaros? and around how many miles does a 3.8 V6 start having some expensive problems?

Actually both V8s and V6s have the same amount of problems, just depends who uses them and how, it isnt one sided where a V8 will experience more problems because of the 2 cylinders that it has over the V6, infact I think V8s last longer than 6s. But with your 3.8 i'd say around 150K is when its life is going to end, usually happens with all engines.

Re: V6/V8 maintenance

All cars have problems, end of story.

You bought a performance car, V6 or V8, its gonna have problems, comes with the territory. If you want a car that has no problems gets a civic :P

Re: V6/V8 maintenance

The only thing I know is that GM screwed up all the electrical components in their cars including sensors and pumps and the gaskets as well on all engines. GM fans learned to put up with them and they dont go to buy Civics

Re: V6/V8 maintenance

i have learned the past three years working in a shop (its not even what im going to be doing for a living), every car has problems. You cant get away with it. All you can do it try to do the most maintinence you can and wait until it breaks....

Re: V6/V8 maintenance

one thing to keep in mind, is most of the maintanence issues are on 15 year old cars, or major engine swap projects that we have been taking on. There is no 15 year old car on earth that dosnt need regular maintanence to keep running right.
