Re: Hey Eggert (cold air intake)

Hi Jubaby, thanks for the kind words.
My opinion about throttle body spacers is: don't waste your money. I have not seen any specific claim by any brand about how many HP or foot pounds they add, and Airaid is no exception. Just some general verbiage.
It seems that Airaid, K&N and Volant are similar in that they put a conical filter into a box, replacing the OEM paper filter and the OEM box.
The air still comes in from the fender well through the same slots. Performance improvement claims are similar, about 3% to 5%.
There is only so much more air that can be sucked in by having a better filter. To me all 3 brands seem equal.
Take care, Eggert

I just sent back my Airaid MIT, Filter and Throttle Body Spacer. Just a lot of noise and whatever performance gains was in my head. The spacer did seem to give better throttle response but the screeching noise was annoying. I should have learned from my experience with a K&N FIPK that I put in my Tundra. Noisy as hell! Go stock. Trust me.

The volant may be a little more expensive because it has an enclosed box to put the filter in. It is also much nicer looking than the others. The bad part is it isn't CARB certified yet. So if you live in California and are coming up for a smog inspection it won't pass. Volant is working to get it passed soon, hopefully by the end of the year.

The noise output is slightly louder than stock. It has a nice sound of air being sucked into the intake. Not as loud as the K&N or others that don't have the enclosed box.

If you are looking for an exhaust with a slight rumble but good performance, I would go with the Corsa touring system. It has a nice rumble at idle and when you really put your foot into it. Otherwise it sounds like stock at cruising.

I've got the Volant and the Corsa touring exhaust on my 04 Denali and they sound and perform great together. The only draw back is that I wish the volant was CARB certified. I didn't know the details at the time of purchase.
