pre 1986 Chevy 350 long block

Where is the best place (cost wise) to get a 350 long block... pre 1986 shipped top me? I am in Massachusetts. Any suggestions? Obviously quality and guarantee are important!

Thanks!

Re: pre 1986 Chevy 350 long block

if i was you i wouldnt care too much about the year of the motor. you can carburete probably about any 350 chevy with the right intake manifold on it. i am actually buying a new 350 eventually to replace the 91' mexican crate 350 that some dude threw in my old truck a long time ago. i looked into autozone and a 350 v8 that has 4 bolt mains was $999.99 that includes EVERYTHING except for an intake, carb, and valve covers. you dont have to mess around with putting heads on it its a complete longblock and its a newer version that doesnt require lead additive. i believe you can throw in a few more bucks and get a big ol' lopey cam for it too

What about Tranny?

But what about the Tranny? Isn't that the reason you need to be concerned with the year of the engine? Also, besides the intake and valve covers I will need to add my oil pan and distributor ... correct? by definition of a long block it comes with everything but the tin, the intake, and the distriutor.

Re: pre 1986 Chevy 350 long block

oh yeah theres no distributor. forgot about that one. and yeah i dont know about the oil pan i thought that they would automatically have to have one so that dirt and stuff wouldnt get up inside the block during shipping. i dont know tho ur probably right. and i didnt even think about the tranny. thats a good question. i dont really know what this means but i hear that an older block has a 2 piece rear main seal and a newer block has a one piece that is less prone to leak. im assuming that the rear main seal has to do with the driveshaft coming out the hole in the back of the block. i can see why a one piece would work better. i have no idea if the tranny makes a difference or not for different year blocks
