Question Lets go in the "Way Back Machine"

Does anybody know what the differences are between the hidden wipers and non hidden on the early 70's models? I know the motors are different... but are the trans. and wipers too??? Anyone???

89Iroc doesn't know? First time I've ever seen that happen.

Sorry man I dont know.

Maybe contact GM or do some research with images.

But to clarify your question... Do you just want to see the visual difference or do you want to know about the different motor mechanism?

Re: Lets go in the "Way Back Machine"

Well, I know the motors are different. I'm not sure which I have. so, I am wondering if the trans. and wipers are the same. That way I'll just put the either motor in, and it'll work, (or not).
The local parts stores have to order both and I don't really want to pay for one I cant use. (go figure.)

Re: Lets go in the "Way Back Machine"

id say go to the chevy dealership and ask the parts guy to pull the part number for the correct part. If the part number is the same for each, then you know youre good to go.

Re: Lets go in the "Way Back Machine"

The driver side arm on the hidden wiper has extra support to it. I BELIEVE you can use either type arms on either type system depending on the hood you have on your maro. Wasn't aware the motor and trans' were different though. The difference is that the hidden wiper's system had less room to work with - hood clearance is different - and the regular arms would rub on the hood.

Re: Lets go in the "Way Back Machine"

PS - Have hidden wipers on mine with aftermarket fiberglass hood... still rubs, had to screw around with the hood to get the wipers not to rub and as a result the hood isn't sitting just quite right. BUT gotta have wipers, so getting steel hood when I redo the paint.

Re: Lets go in the "Way Back Machine"

70 - bought in August of 04. Hate the tiny drag rims and tires on the front, but new ones are a bit out of my budget this year. Too busy correcting minor stuff: mirrors, brake lines, carb, clutch, new stereo, etc... The guy I bought it off of never finished it. It needs a little cleaning up but other than that she ROCKS! Expensive, but fun as hell.

Re: Lets go in the "Way Back Machine"

Yeah, gotta love 'em!! I had a '71, now I own a '70 and it needs a lot more work than yours!!! Do you mind if I ask how much you paid?
I found a lot of useful info on this site, check it out, I think you'll love it as much as I did.

Re: Lets go in the "Way Back Machine"

14,500. Not original by any means, but I knew what I wanted and paid accordingly.

NastyZ28.com - 2nd gen camaro owners group! Use it all the time. they also have the other gens i think they're at the top, but one hell of a great reference site.

Thanks about the rims. Centerline Convo-Pro's, I like em, but with the front tires being so skinny I'm not real comfortable driving it at normal speeds in turns, you know? One of those tiny things gives and it's all over!

(Hafta update the pics in my sig, that bigass pic is a little much).

I see what you mean on the handling side of things, you need at least a 15x8 up there

Re: Lets go in the "Way Back Machine"

I spent a couple grand on a clutch and having the exhaust system legalized, parking brake, etc. I wish PA wasn't such a bunch of geeks about the exhaust though. MAN it was beautiful with the turn downs - ended right after the mufflers. It's amazing what a few extra feet of pipe will do to the sound level.

I've sworn off mechanics for everything from there on out, unless I can't afford the tools to do the job. I can't afford to pay every jackass that wan't to quote me one price and double it when I get the bill.
