Online Street Racing Game - suggestions
Hey there, first a brief intro, I am a final year high school student in Australia, currently working on my major work for Software Design and Development. As it is an open project, i have chosen to create a racing management game because i have an interest in cars, and choose to use php, because i would like to oneday get into the webdevelopment industry, so this could help me a great deal.
One of the assessment criterias is to 'solve' a problem. So i created a problem for my self - A fictional company called 'Rev-Tech Performance' wants a way to promote their products online, in an intuitive have, and in a way that it will be aimed at the target market. So my solution is to create an online car racing management game, where all the players will be car enthuasists and therefore potential customers. Now about the game, it is called RevRacing, and i am working on a html demo first, ive only done the layout, and put in some rubbish information to fill the spaces. You can find it here http://www.epcgaming.com/rev/index1.html P.S that page is not optimised, and is pretty slow, and very unorganised, i am gonna redo it with CSS, to make it cleaner and more efficient. Market: There will be a transfer market, where you can select from brand new cars from the showroom, at fixed prices, or used (and possibibly modified cars) which are being sold by other players. Tuning: Tuning will be simple, you will have 100 points allocated to setup your car for each race. For example put 20 on braking, 30 on acceleration etc. Upgrades: The upgrade system will consist of 'normal upgrades', where it will add points to specified attributes, like a engine upgrade will enhance acceleration and top speed. The second upgrade is called 'R-Tech upgrades', they are like the RPG equivelant of rare or bonus items. There will be 3 of them, each upgrade will increase 2 areas of your cars performance by 10%, on top of what it already have, and there will be a total of 3, and the upgrade name will appear besides the car name, eg Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R RI, RII, or RIII. They offcourse will be very expensive. Racing: I am going for some realistic racing, ie the laptimes etc will be very close. I will calculate the laptime which is affected by many factors, including driver ability, and drivers track knowledge etc. You cannot watch a race, but only see the result, the result will be organised this way. (example) Lap 1 1:32.564 Pos 14 Sector 1 34.23 Average section Sector 2 45.23 Driver spun, lost 5s Sector 3 19.03 Perfect section Lap 2.... something like that. Tournament: There will be 3 'divisions' - Elite, Pro, and Semi-Pro, Elite will have 1 series, Pro have 3, and Semi-pro have 9, each series will have 40 cars, 10 from each class. Class AAA, AA, A and B. Top of each class in each series will promote to next division, and bottom 3 of each class gets relegated. Like in soccer. So this way you can choose whether you want to race supreme supercars, or your japanese imports. You will have 2 championship race a week, on sunday and on wednesday. Circuits: There will be a wide range of circuits, from real life, to fictional ones. So the game will be street cars, racing on racing circuits (this is why i posted in street racing?) Challenges: There will be a feature where you can set up races with your friends, on any tracks, but each race costs a certain amount of money, and you can have 1 race a day. Scouting: There will be an ability to 'scout' for special and rare cars, for example the Top Secret Nissan Skyline, you spend a certain amount of money to start the search, and you can search once per day. There is a certain probability that you will find certain cars. 1/50, 1/100 etc, so you might spend weeks looking, or might get your car 1st or 2nd go The game will be running long term, ie there will be no resets etc, you keep your account for life, and continue to build up. Okay, sorry about the long post, i think that covers most of the basic features. I'll add more as i think of them. As it is part of an assessment, i am obviously not allowed to get other people to do the program for me, but i will be looking to expand the project after the assessment finishes (late july), and maybe put together a development team. The purpose of this thread is for you guys to post suggestions and comments on the game. And i'll see what i can do about it! Thanks for listening, now keep the posts coming ![]() William |

Re: Online Street Racing Game - suggestions
actually, i could have a drag racing challenge, but there is already one on the net, www.midnitechallenge.com, and its pure drag racing, so mine would not be as detailed. But it will be a nice way to see how fast your car is

Re: Online Street Racing Game - suggestions
Ever heard of TopShift.com? Pretty much covers everything you want. The only problem I have is that you can't actually see the races going on. And a 2004 M5 is as fast as a 1993 Civic SI when first purchased. Both run 17's. Other than that, it's a fun game. Check it out sometime. L8...

Re: Online Street Racing Game - suggestions
yea i played it, i didnt like it too much, pretty much the same as midnitechallnge, actually almost the exact same coding, with some mods. Anyway i wanted mine unique in that its 'circuit' racing, and kinda like professional racing with street cars. Also my game is long term, it doesnt reset every month, and you have to do a million clicks. You have to plan for the long-term, each season might take 20 real life weeks, and you work your way to the top.
