Considering buying a Probe

Well i've been doing a lot of reading on these cars, and I've found a Probe for $1400. it's got 144k miles and the interior and exterior are in great shape. I'm going to give it a test drive by the end of this week, and while i'm there i'm going to be doing the standard checks like oil and such, and was wondering, is there anything specific i should look for that could be a common problem with these cars? I've read that they have unreliable tranny's, but is there anything else i should watch out for? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

What year/engine/transmission are we talking here?

The Mazda automatic used in some Probes can be unreliable if it's not well-taken care of, but sticks are basically bulletproof.
