Car and Record

I'm a foreign student from Denmark. I don't really know how things work here in US. So I figure it might be best if I ask around this forum.

I got an accident last week. Problem is, I haven't purchased an insurance yet. I'm thinking of taking my car to one of the repair shops here in town. What I need to know is, will the title ever appear at the VIN record as "salvage" if there's no insurance company involved?

Since I have no insurance, I have to pay for the damage with my own money. So literally the transaction is only between the repair shop and me. Here in US, if we get our car fixed, and the shop who fix it - are they going to enter this information (car involved in accident / salvage) into the general record.

Thank you so much in advance for your help.

Re: Car and Record

Unless you have insurance it shouldn't effect the status of your title at all. I believe only an insurance company can say whether a car is salvaged or not. Since your getting everything fixed without an insurance company involved, there should be nothing negative being put on your title or car report (like from carfax.com or a company like that).

Yeah, there's no way for them to know it is salvaged unless the insurance is involved

Re: Car and Record

You MUST drive with insurance, in the US.
As you know, the US is obsessed with litigation. If you have an accident and its your fault, you may be sued for damages. This can be extensive if there is a personal injury involved.
Without insurance, you may end up paying a settlement out of your own pockets for many years.
