d16y8 swap, pics

we put a d16y8 into a friend's hatch. he got the engine off ebay, it came with dyno sheet. it had: jg ported intake mani & throttlebody, port & polished head, bullfrog cam, jg cam gear, & dc sports header. he picked up a dual friction stage 2 center force clutch. also did a front hub swap and rear disc conversion. he painted the exterior of his car orange so to top things off we attended to the bay as well.

let the pics begin...

before:

prepped for paint:

car owner painted it, did a good job:

jer painted the tranny, block, and valve cover:

jer's better than stock wiring harness for MPFI & obd-2:

there ya have it.

oh yea, the conversion harness the owner of the car picked up for the p28 ended up being made wrong. jer took stock ecu diagrams from several years to make sense of it all. we've come across a couple of those harnesses that have had incorrect wires. jer has decided he's going to start making them. he's MECP certified, he's not some jerky who feels like playing with wires. he'll test every harness after it's made to make sure it works before he ships it.

Re: Re: d16y8 swap, pics

we didn't convert it to odb2. used the p28 (obd1). there is stuff on the obd2 block that isn't on the obd1. make sense now?

and thanx everybody. it was a lot of work in a very short amount of time. but we're happy with the results

Re: d16y8 swap, pics

Looks pretty damn clean.

If there are things that arent on the OBD1 harness, and you're using an OBD1 ECU, then the things that are extra obd2 you will not use :P

btw, what did the dyno graph look like?

Re: Re: d16y8 swap, pics

bah! i don't do the wiring. he's MECP cert. so i don't bother. all i know is he rewired it so all he had to do was plug n play. no 8 wires to extend with the conversion harness. then we plug in the conversion harness and all hell broke loose

when jer gets on a wire mission it's sometimes hards to keep up with what he is thinking.

Re: d16y8 swap, pics

Looks great, not a fan of the color, but to each their own. Love the radiator swap. What did the dyno show the engine was pulling?
