95 neon/ignition -insert key into start car

and I can't turn the key at all. It seems like the neutral safety switch
is stuck or something. I have turned the sterring wheel left and right to see if that was the problem and still no dice. I have an automatic starter for the car and when I press the button the car starts no problem but as soon as I stick the key in the ignition I can't turn the key. Help???????

It's the black plastic cover around the key switch. Take it off.
