Mach 1 performance?
In a recent issue of motor trend, April 2004, it featured an article on a vortech supercharged mach1. Now, it also had the stock performance figures to compare, which were extremely suprising: 4.7 0-60, 13.20 1/4 mile. Now if im not wrong, an earlier issue of motor trend tested out an SVT Cobra and racked up times of 4.9 0-60 and 13.3 1/4 mile. Howcome it is that the Mach 1 out performs the SVT Cobra? Are those times possible?

Re: Mach 1 performance?
I belive it ran high 11's. It was fully pimped out with a complete Griggs Racing suspension.

I think the Supercharged Mach 1 went 11.96? I don't remember. The reason you see Cobras running mid 13s in a lot of magazines is they can't drive it. I remember Muscle Mustangs once drove a 2003 Cobra to 12.76 stock. One of my buddies has a 2003 Cobra with something like 450 RWHP and it only went 12.2 because he can't drive it. Plus the 275 tires that come with the Cobra are really undersized for a car with that much power. Kind of like trying to stop a freight train with a Mini Cooper.

Not to mention that IRS isn't very conducive to straight-line traction, and the Cobra is gonna put out a lot more bottom-end torque than the stock Mach.
I agree, magazine drivers suck. I think the MM&FF test was Paul Z driving and they had either slicks or D/R's on it, unless it is in a newer issue. I let my subscription run out in late '02 because all the 'stangs in that mag were starting to look riced out.

Speaking of the devil.......I was reading an article on Road and Track, the Cobra vs the GTO, and they only got a 13.4 pass out of the Cobra.
I've seen stock GTOs go 13.2. Somehow I don't think the GTO would beat the Cobra, I mean, the Mach 1 runs 13.2 stock, how in the world would a Cobra, with over 100 extra horsepower go slower? |

Re: Mach 1 performance?
The Cobra is faster hands down its just very hard to launch them. Mags only get the car for a day so they really cant learn the car very well but i think they are pretty good drivers hell the test the shit out of cars for a living their gonna get pretty good.

o my goodness, GTO gtfo! its a piece of sht, excuse my language. honestly, it cannot compare to anything at all. The performance is abysmall compared with a Mach 1 with 60 less horses, hell even a GT could catch it. But yea, the cobra seems pretty hard to launch. Its too much torque... but what can I say, I haven't test driven one.

Re: Mach 1 performance?
My problem while launching is finding the right rpm, and the horrendous wheelhop. And I don't have anywhere the torque that 03+'s do.
