Instructions For a Cheap Home Made Octane Booster
I was having a walk around the net tonight and I stumbled upon this..
A cheap home made octane booster.. Well its supposed to be.. I'm going to read it from top to bottom and then.. ![]() Try it on the ol' bomb.. Mazda 626 thats majorly clagged and feels like its redlining (lack of power) at 3000rpm.. It pings heaps so it should be a good test.. ![]() I might even see how it runs on just octane boost.. hrmmm <grins> Here is it ppls Home Made Octane Boost

Thanks for the post, I'm going to give it a try. For all those out there considering it, don't forget that we measure octane in RON not the RON/MON average, so adjust the figures accordingling. Some conversions to help 1 pint [pt] = 20 fl oz = 0.5683 l 1 gallon [gal] = 8 pt = 4.5461 l |

another formula
It's been a long while since my calculus class, but here the formula to figure out how many litres of tolulene you need.
L of Tolulene=(Desired RON-Pump RON)/(121-Pump RON)*Tank capacity For example: want 100 RON end result using 96 RON pump fuel (100-96)/(121-96)=16% 16%* 65L tank = 10.4L of Tolulene. want 100 RON end result using 98 RON pump fuel (100-98)/(121-98)=8.7% 8.7%* 65L tank = 5.65L of Tolulene. That's a lot of Tolulene, but for a track day it's not too bad. Makes you wonder what Octane (RON) rating octane boost has if 200mls of the stuff is supposed to take your tank from 98 to 100. Now, does anyone know where to buy it at a good price. |

I looked at one Octane Boost (104+) that was $28.. 500ml's
It said that It treats 3 petrol tanks full.. hrmm.. How would that work.. A Chemical Reaction some how increasing the RON?

They usually have a clensing agent which affects the petrol it's added to. I also would not believe what it claims.
I don't know enough about it, but I do know that using additive leaves a lot of residue in the turbos, some orange stuff that I can't identify. I'm no expert, but the math is right according to the instructions on the website. Put the values into the formula and try it at your own risk! |

In the turbo's?
I would understand if it was an oil additive leaving residue in the turbo. Unless the car is running way rich and kindly cleaning the bores for you.

OMG... are you guys NUTS! tolulene will attack and harden the rubber parts in your fuel system.... fuel pump, seals, lines.... Don't even touch it. I have tried using it and seen the results on the rubber when I had my fuel pump replaces..... Zapf |
