350 Silverado smokes at start up
I got a 88 Silverado 2wd 5.7L 350. It smokes when I first start it up. It never uses oil so what is the problem?? Also it turns over about 6-8 times before start up.
Thanks for any help [email protected] |

Re: 350 Silverado smokes at start up
Sounds like the valve stem seals to me, which aint major, but still pretty big job to change. It doesn't smoke when you accelerate does it? If it does that then your rings are wore and that is a major problem.

I have an 88 5.7 L Silverado with 137 K miles on it. It does the same thing. My mechanic said that it was the valve stem seals too. So the next time I changed the oil I went with a high milage oil and added a quart of Luthers oil to the crank. Theres a small puff of smoke when I start it up but thats it. I also ran a bottle Luthers of gas treatment twice. I think that helped too. I am gonna burn it till it don't burn no more. Good luck.
