95 neon speed sensor

does anyone know where the speed sensor on the transmission is located? the repair manual i'm looking at doesn't really make any reference to it, except when referring to transmission removal and then it only says to disconnect it. the only thing it really mention is a wheel speed sensor which isn't on the transmission.

Ever find out?

Did you ever find out where the speed sensor is on the transmission? I am new to this board, as of today. I had the same problem. I bought the sensor, and took the battery and tray out, then put the car up on the lift. I don't see it!!

Re: 95 neon speed sensor

Found it, finally! It is right above where the axle from the passengers side goes into the transmission. I called one of the mechanics that does a lot of our work.

if the sensor doesn't fix it

if the sensor doesn't fix it its a bad connection on the back of the
printed circute board of the speed ometer.
i had that problem on my 95 and a freind had the same problem.
the speedo is easy to get out. a little solder and problem solved.

Re: 95 neon speed sensor

check to see if the prongs on the sensor are bent, that happens sometimes, it also tends to happen with the reverse light sensor, happened to be a couple times

Re: 95 neon speed sensor

i never found where it was, until now..thanx for the info. i saw that sensor mentioned in the previous post and wondered if that was it, but no one could tell me either way. if fixed my speedometer without if though. i pulled it and cleaned any connection that look corroded and soldered anything solder that looked like it had and cracks or breaks in it. i haven't had problem since.

New sensor

Now on the new sensor that I bought, I did have to cut the original plug off and add the new plug that comes with the sensor. Not sure why they changed the plug, but it works!
