Each sub has a single 8ohm coil and can take (supposedly) 400rms. You're going to need to wire the subs in parallel to give you a final load of 4ohm. Now you're going to need an amp that can put out around 800x1 @ 4ohm (400 to each sub). The choice is up to you, it all really depends on your budget. The Avionixx 800.2 will put out 800x1 @ 4ohm just like you need, I believe DEI has an amp that can put out that power as well. It doesn't really matter, some amps are more reliable, some put out their rated power, some more, some less, just post up a couple options and we can tell you if they're good or bad.

Here's how to wire your subs in parallel:

Good god, Ive always thought that 1000x1 meant it could only be used for one sub. Mono amps are probably always best for 2 subs then arent they?

you can use a mono for as many subs as you want, whether it is "best" for one or not all depends

yep, you can use whatever you want as long as you match impedences

What would a 800x2 amp most likely be used for then?

800x2?
I don't know how many 800x2 amps there are out there, but you could use it to power 2 800 watt subs or 1 crazy ass sub, or 4 mid level subs, or whatever you wanted. Like I said, all you have to do is match impedences, figure out the power each sub will get, and decide if it's what you want. When you're dealing with subs and sub amps, 2 ch just allows for more wiring flexibility over mono, much like DVC just allows for more wiring flexibility over SVC.

Would I wire two 4 ohm subs together the same way? The subs that I am looking at are two 4 ohm subs rated for 300 watts RMS each, that means that I would have to get a 600 RMS x 1 amp, right?

you would want a mono amp that does 600x1 @ 2ohm, or a 4ch amp that does 300x2 @ 4ohm when bridged.
