IAC Idle Control - where is it located/how to test it?

Hey guys,

I have a 92 3.1 Lumina Eurosport, at stop lites this car stalls out if it sits for more than 30secs... I tested the sparkplug wires and cleaned/gapped the plugs, changed the fuel filter and other little things over the year.. and it still stalls out at the stop signs..

i do not have the chiltons book on this car and was wondering where to locate the IAC idle control, and when i do locate it how do i test it??

Thanks for the help!

Its Right Near the Throttle Body, I am not sure as to how to test it but i know its right on top on the throttle body, i may be the root of ur probs, i think i also need to replace mine, because after she warms up at a complete stop the idle will wander between 1000 n 700 going up n down so that may be it

check the throttle position sensor if it hunts at idle.

Yep Idle Relearned, still hunts for idle, im not sure of what it could be, but i know that the Temp sensor isnt connected or somthing is wrong because inside the gauge for the temp doesnt work so, this may be my prob along with the IAC

Re: IAC Idle Control - where is it located/how to test it?

spray carb cleaner into the port for the pcv valve. while holding at high idle. if this helps some right away, take off the throttlebody and clean between the venturi's. if you have it off and you find this passage plugged it will affect idle and performance.toivo

Re: IAC Idle Control - where is it located/how to test it?

I have heard that you test the idle air controler by gently pushing and pulling it back and forth.......It should be pretty hard to move but if it moves smothly your fine....If it moves roughly or it moves to easily it is bad.....But be gentle with it......The first time I did this I pulled to hard on it and ripped the thing out....Lol....So be gentle with it....
