Desperate Help Please

Alright lets make this quick and simple.

I Have a 97 Nissan Pathfinder SE 5 Speed, With Cold Air Intake.

Short Version
Last night it rained very heavy and on my way home the over pass was washed out and i saw other vehicals go thou with no problem so i went well the water was too deep and stalled out my engine we pushed it out of the water took off the K&N Air Filter and it was soked and when we tried to start it all it did was ""Click"" and didnt turn over at all we tried push starting it quite a few times and all it did was skidd and the tires lock up. so the tow truck driver tried boosting it still just ""Click"" so today at my house hopeing for the best went out and still all it did was ""click"" tried push starting it on dry ground and the tires just locked up and skidded we also tryed turning the fly wheel as well and she wont even budge, took apart the air intake and it had some water in it and thats when we called nissan and got it towed there, now just looking for some ideas on what could have happend whats the steps in fixing my problem and cost, also best case senario and worst.

Long Version
Last night in Edmonton we had a major downpour and i was stuck on the yellowhead with lots of low overpasses and alot of them had close to 2 feet of water in them, now yesterday i didnt have a problem went to my gfs place on the other end of the city dropped her off waited for it to stop raning and it did on my way back the road that i need to get home washed out under the bridge and it wasnt that high about a foot and half so i had no problem before so i went thou it well in the middle it was about 2 1/2 feet deep and when i was in there i new it was over engine gave out a final chuge and died right there. So me and my buddies were like no problem pull of the K&N Air Filter (after we pushed it out of the water) and wait for everything to dry up waited for about 2 hours and all my truck did was "'Click"" now i know alittle about mechanices so i knew that ok that bad, but not bad bad its a standard push start it and we'll be on our way so all 3 of us started pushing got up good speed and popped the clutch nothing just skidded ok now thats really bad but its wet on the road prolly no traction ok whatever call tow truck tow truck came and we tried boosting it still ""click"" push start it one more time still no luck so got it towed home. Well today we tried a few things even after sitting around till about noon the starter still didnt do anything but ""click"" so we tried to push start it twice and the tires just locked up so after that we said o shit may have ceased the engine, lets pull the air cleaner and guess what was all the way up water... So thats where i left it called Nissan Dealer and as of tonight it sits in the parking lot at Nissan. So im just wondering if anything knows of anyone or of any other experence that might know what happend? and Soultion along with Cost? ]

Thanks Adam

When you say "click", do you mean that the engine is not turning over at all? You know, "rrrr, rrrr, rrrrr, vrooom", but without the "vrooom" at the end? If it is not turning over at all, then I would start with the battery to make sure it is fully charged and your connectors are clean and tight. Check the battery cables also to make sure they are connected properly at both ends. If you seized your engine after one bath, then Nissan ought to be buying you a new one... I don't think you have a seized engine

Is Just A Click, Yeah i went thou the whole process, today + my motor is always kept clean and spotless and its a brandnew battery and we tried to boost it just incase, checked every fuse that has a motor function check all my leads and i even took a hammer and got my friend to try turning it over every time i hit it and we still get an alarming "Click" we tried to pull the starter but its almost impossible to get the bolt way up around the exaust outand i just dont have all the tools to do it, my prognossis is maybe my starter is waterlogged i hope thats all it is anyways

Hmmm... still sounds like the starter is just not getting enough "juice" to turn it over. You say it is a brand new battery.. are you sure you got one with enough Cold Cranking Amps (CCA)? Check your owners manual or call the Nissan dealership and find out what it should be then make sure your battery has at least that much. If this is all good and your connectors are in good order, then it might be the starter indeed. Have you talked to the Nissan service department about your problem? Usually they are pretty good about answering questions.

Re: Desperate Help Please

My 87 pathfinder is doing the same thing with just a clicking sound during ignition. It died on me at the bar and the next day when i was all hung over i went to get it.Basically i just took a screwdriver and tapped on the solenoid for the starting motor while my buddy tried to turn it over, after a few tries it started. Now the peice of crap just wont start at all even with tapping on it,all i get is the clicking sound. All that water may have just hit a connector on the starter assembly and fried the solenoid.

Re: Desperate Help Please

hmmm, heres a thought, DING! 'take the spark plugs out!!!'
Yes, u most likely have 'Hydro locked' ur engine as u put it, but, there are 2 out comes... One:U take all the spark plugs out and try to turn the engine over, which should get all the water out, and u may need a push start to do this cause ur engine is probably partially siezed. Two:If it still stayes siezed, u must have it rebuild because the pistions are rusted to the cylender walls. Email me w/the outcome ... [email protected]
