Question about the race between AE86, Sileighty, and EG6

When Tak race the EG6 in the duck tape death match, what did Tak figure out while driving?

And then the battle against Sileighty. When they did the drift in the turn C-121, did the dirt help Tak complete the turn? If not, what was the purpose of it then?

Thanks for clearing stuff out for me. XD

Takumi learned that he didn't need to countersteer so much while drifting. He could control the car using the accelerator instead, and that made him faster.

The whole point of C-121 was that Mako and Sayuki had used it to defeat their opponents in the past(see Extra Stage for an example). No one had been able to keep up with them through it. Takumi however, was able to pick a better cornering line through the turn, and actually gained on the girls.

Shingo learned 2 bigger lesson. RWD is better for a downhill than FWD. And that bump the ass end of the 86 wasn't such a good idea lol

shingo shouldn't have been driving an automatic too.... >_< but then again for those death tape matches or whatever they are called you prolly wouldn't wanna be shifting too much anyway...less stuff to do.

Pretty sure Shingo was driving a 5-speed.

in the anime i think it shows shingo w/ a 5-spd but in the manga i think shingo was using a auto because his specialty was that gum tape stuff and having a auto made the car easier to drive... i gotta find that manga issue again.

No, I don't think shingo was driving an auto...although I think it would be cool to see an auto driver in Initial D. I mean in RL, I know some kick ass fast drivers who drive automatics, and that's all I'm going to say about that..

Re: Question about the race between AE86, Sileighty, and EG6

For road racing, and downhill, automatics = teh lose. For drag racing, the shifts are perfect and can be set to shift right when needed, and its more accurate than any human. For road racing, you can't control what gear your in, unless you have some kind of piddly paddly gearbox thing. Then its pretty much a manual without a clutch pedal.

But never ever EVER mention automatic transmission deficiency to Jim Hall - builder of the infamous Chaparrals.

Chaparral 2A - USRRC champion, several Can-Am victories. 4spd automatic gearbox.

Chaparral 2E - several Can-Am victories. 2spd automatic. Foot pedal controlled angle of the wing.

Chaparral 2F - Winner of the Brands Hatch 1000km race in 1967 (against MkII GT40's and Ferrari 330P4's) , 3spd automatic.

Chaparral 2J - "the sucker car". Used Lexan sheets to seal the car to the track and used a vacuum mounted on the back end of the car to create suction that held the car to the track perfectly. More than a second faster than the McLaren M8's it ran against, it's design was banned from Can-Am competition.

the vacuum thing wasn't origonally a Chaparral design... Chapman used that long before, and also had the design banned...
