Aftermarket air filter
So my stock air cleaner housing cracked and i decided to get an injen air filter since they say they are better quality and last longer. It fit right inside the rubber OE intake hose but i also cut some aluminum pipe to put in the filter and clamped the rubber hose down on it to make sure theres no other air getting past it. But it seems like my car almost has slower acceleration than it did before. Does anyone know if this is possible and what could cause that? maybe im wrong and just imagining things but i was thinking maybe if the filter gives better airflow that now there's a lean mixture problem going on? or would the computer just adjust the amount the injector put in.

What manufacturer you have mounted ?
On filters the best are MANN and K&N, what did you chose ? |

Fits INSIDE the stock rubber hose?
That's probably going to kill power right there. It would be .a double whammy of reducing the airflow by sticking a restriction into the intake tube, then having the air going into it being heated by the engine and radiator. At the least, you could slip a thinwall tube inside the stock intake hose, then slip a cone type filter OVER the tube, but you would still be picking up hot air from the engine compartment. Probably one of the best solutions is to use a K&N type panel filter inside the stock (intact) airbox, and then you would be useing all the cold air goodness that was designed into the stock system. |
