Lotus 107B Ford

Hey guys, it’s been a while since I last made a model kit. This is the latest model, Tamiya Lotus 107B Ford. This kit is an old school kit as it was out in the 90s. The version I made here is Johnny Herbert’s version.


Actually I have finished this kit a week or two ago but I didn’t have the time nor the feel to do some photo shoot on this kit. The paint I used here is only white spray paint and I used a brand that is not Tamiya to spray this.















The parts are fine as the mold fits well. Since this kit came out in the 90s, looks as though that it does not come with a masking for the Castrol green area along with another green and yellow at the nose cone and the side of the cowling and the monocoque. The only gripe I have here is since that is the old school kit, the decals here are so brittle. Cause I almost damaged the dark green decal at the bottom part of the nose cone. Glad at least it is not obvious unless someone wants to see the underneath part. Another is, I keep on wondering, why do they provide the decal for the front wing rather than suggesting the colour for us to paint. How I wish that they can just give us the suggested colour for us to paint rather than using the decal which makes the kit looks kind of awkward. You can also see the same for the Castrol green area especially near where the air intake is.

Nice work on this one. It's not an easy kit with all those decals to fit. I've held off on this one because of all the decals. I'm not 100% sure but I think the rear wing is tilted back too far..?? I'm sure it should be straight..?? Maybe something you could still change..??

Steve : Yeah, how I wish that they provide the masking rather than using the decal for the colouring. The Castrol green is kind of oversized especially at the air intake area. Other parts like the red spot on the cowling near the Castrol green, the dark green at the side of the cowling, the monocoque and the front wing fits well. For the rear wing, it kind of tilted when I moved the kit around when I worked on the decals.

I'm planning to build Jordan 191 and definitely I will paint the blue part instead of using the decal provided by the kit. Also I have to order the aftermarket decal as the Fujifilm logo in the decal provided by the kit is kind of blended with the white surroundings to be placed on the rear wing. I would normally paint the rear wing part rather than using the decal provided by the kit.

You did a good job on a difficult decal kit Adrian.

See if you can bend the rear wing mount a little to make it not so high in the front like Steve said. Otherwise good job congrats.

One thing you can consider Adrian is to take the decal sheet to your local hobby shop and try to color match the paints to the decals.
