2000 V6 Mustang wont start

2000 Mustang was running fine. It hasnt been driven in a copule of days, and now wont start. No noise in the tank, fuel pump not working. But when you spray gas into the throttle body it wont even try to hit. Fuses under the hood beside the battery are all good. Inerta switch is down and in place. Am I missing something? maybe a relay? I would just think no matter what, getting fuel into the opening of the throttle would cause the car to at least cough. Help!

If spraaying gas into throttle body does not start it that means there is no spark.

Check the spark.

Is the check engine light on, if so what are codes (post any codes)

Thanks! I will check the spark. (I didnt want to do that just after spraying gas into the throttle) But, are you aware of a condition that will cause the fuel pump not to cycle when you turn the key on and cause the car not to spark? Seems odd that two things happened at once. Its a well maintained and usually trouble free car. Weather here has been right at freezing and very damp air the past few days. Fuel guage shows 1/4 tank, I really have no reason to think its wrong. also, No check engine light

Double check your fuses with a multimeter to make surethey are good \, looking at them can be decieving.

Re: 2000 V6 Mustang wont start

Thanks Tempfixit! This reminds me why I dont work on cars for a living anymore. Crazy. The car did have spark. All fuses were checked with a multitester, all good. On the advice of a neighbor who has a shop, I used carb cleaner into the throttle body to see if it would cough. he said that gas just cant get it into the throttle like the spray cleaner. He was right. Sprayed the cleaner into the throttle and it fired up. ran a few seconds but let me know that it was firing and I had fuel pump problems. As I was trying to find out if it was the pump or relay, we tried to start it one more time. The excess cleaner in the throttle backfired, as usual, and it caught the gasoline on fire under the opening of the throttle body! You know the fire extinushers that you have in case of emergency? Well, they are hard to find in 30 seconds. We scattered, one moved the good cars from behind the Mustang (it was inside the garage) one ran for water I took off my favorite coat and procedded to smother the fire. I succedded at the expense of my coat. What seemed like 30 minutes of fire fighting, was actually only 30 seconds. After the smoke cleared, we had a laugh, then just for fun tried to start the car. It fired right up! Ran perfectly! Probably better thanks to a clean throttle body. Drove the car home and to work this morning. Probably got a bad or loose relay, it will probably show up again later. But in the meantime... Darnedest day of auto mechanicin Ive had in a long time! I wish you could have been here.

You may want to take a look at your relay and possibly get a extra one on hand in case it does it again.
