I call this the "Ugly Duck" build, because of the donor kit we'll be using, the infamous Monogram F40 kit!
This kit, like many others, has been sitting in the back of the closet, due to the horrible body, so never intended to be built as is, so instead I decided to use this opportunity to use as a donor, and with some work of my own, make as basis for an affordable transkit, and have a decent looking large scale F40 GTE Evo2 on my shelf! ![]() To that end, this will be a "best" possible build, not a super detailed build, given some compromise of the donor used & for reproduction, rather than being an all out scratch build, but I also have planned 2 stages: Stage 1, body/glass/wheels/tires Stage 2, interior/engine/brakes The basic chassis & suspension of the Monogram kit are half decent, the interior shell usable, and measurements are fairly accurate, but when it came to the body, it's as if they just didn't care about being accurate?! ![]() You can see right away how much material has to be removed and altered, and why I call this a "duck", as the nose was 1cm to wide? ![]() I was originally hoping to re-use the glass, but once into the build it became obvious that new ones will have to be vacuformed! So, first installments, Enjoy! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: 1/12 Ferrari F40 GTE Evo2 kit build - JJ
looking forward to this, especially since i have my friend's semi-junked 1/12 F40 that he'd like fixed and i still don't know how to proceed, aside from disassembling it.

Re: 1/12 Ferrari F40 GTE Evo2 kit build - JJ
Thanks guys! The original body is very poor design, but has enough content to use in modification, rather than to completely scratch-build, and in keeping with this projects idea, to keep as affordable as possible in the end result
The photos don't show completely the degree of cutting/channeling/splicing involved, the roof alone I had to splice from 12 separate pieces When I glue them back together the seams mostly disappear, but this is all in an effort to minimize the filler layers, so the basic forms and shapes are brought as close as possible this way first! Some further work done, starting on the front end now, which also required a large degree of modification ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: 1/12 Ferrari F40 GTE Evo2 kit build - JJ
JeremyJon - excellent scratch building on this otherwise crappy kit.
Sad to say I have one of these in the collection - and until you pointed it out - didn't realize the kit was so far from scale. I will follow your thread as it appears you're on the right track John |

Re: 1/12 Ferrari F40 GTE Evo2 kit build - JJ
Thanks LGT40!
Thanks John! The kit chassis is decent, and drivetrain useful, so with a body/wheel/tire set, could be a presentable model build Even better with a second interior/brakes/engine detail kit, but that'll be coming along after the first part is done Besides, for a Kyosho LM version, it'd cost $500, and I'm not interested at that price, so this will be a MUCH more affordable option ![]() |

More progress, starting design of Enkei wheels - thanks to Johan - to be 3D printed, for this 1/12 F40 GTE Evo2 project!

Re: 1/12 Ferrari F40 GTE Evo2 kit build - JJ
Thanks!
Oh no, I won't be painting it, just hard finishing primer, then making mold & duplicates from this master body When I make one for my own shelf, it'll be F40 Rosso Corsa
