Cool The Spyder and The GST

So, I guess I'm going to use this thread for any updates I do to the Spyder. But I will also use this to document my new project car. I bought my buddies GST. I originally bought the car for the engine, ecu, and harness. But since its a basically complete car, its almost a shame to kill it. All it needs is a m/t transmission and I will get one whenever I find a used one for a good deal. Anyways, most of you have seen pics of the car before, but I got some new ones now since I finally got it to my house. I want to get the car running, finish some small bodywork, and just spray paint it flat black, then completely smoke out the head and taillights, and black out the windows. I will then gut most of the interior and any other useless weight. Basically I want to use it as a dedicated drag car. It probly wont be too fast, but for the money I will have in it, I wont mind pulling it to the track and beating the S*** out of it, and improve my driving in the process. After I get it running, I am going to leave the engine completely stock, then put ATLEAST a 75 wet shot on it. Cheap, easy power.
I guess I will write a quick list of the mods I want to do.

Engine:
New t belt, BS elim.
Atleast 75 wet shot, maybe 100.
Used tranny, and cheap race clutch.

Suspension:
Probly just put some coilspring boosters in the rear springs, and some spring squeezers on the front springs to shift most of the weight of the car on the front tires.

Interior:
-Stripped to bare essentials.
-Put on a cheap Grant steering wheel from my store(to get rid of the airbag)
-And throw in a cheap TunerFX seat that has been in the back of the storage unit at my store for like a year (some ricer ordered and never came and got it, and everyone forgot that it is back there).
-Cheap harnesses
-Probly add a boost gauge.

Outside:
-Cheap used smiley face front end and cheap side skirts.
-Finish filling in the spoiler holes and antenna holes.
-Fix one small dent.
-Sand the primer and rattle can the car flat black.
-Dark smoke out the tails and headlights.
-Tint out the whole car 5 percent and tint out the windshield.

Wheels/tires:
-Cheap slicks.
-Im going to talk to the guy that does all my welding and see if he can put a band in 2 of the steelies, to widen them by 2 or 3 inches.

Heres what we have already done:
-Dericed and cleaned the interior.
-K&N FIPK
-Stripped the 7 layers of old paint and primed.

Thats about all I can think of right now. Tell me what you guys think about it along with any suggestions, or just talk crap if you want to, IDC. I think it will be a fun car. 300 hp in a stripped car should be pretty sick.

Heres some pics. Disregard some of the stuff on the car, a ricer had it before us.

Nice rice pipe!

Lol check out someones attempt at a short throw shifter!

Re: The Spyder and The GST

Got a few more pics. Finally got a lil time to work on the car.

I picked up some 2 tone 96 gsx sideskirts from a friend. I'll probably buy his 96 front end too.

So heres the sides before:

And the sides after. I need to touch up the silver.

Check out the pimpin door panels. Dont ask me why they are different colors because I dont know.

I have yet to understand why people paint their interior plastics. Heres the before:

And after:

I should get some more stuff done this week since I dont have school. I'll probably get the door jambs painted and finish filling the holes in the quarters and hatch.

Re: The Spyder and The GST

Thanks alot man. I did them that color to match the rest of my interior theme. Today I worked on filling in the the holes for the wing, wiper and antenna. I made some backing plates and epoxyed them to the underside of the holes. A light coat of filler and they will be good to go.

Done some things to the car. I picked up some 2ga bumpers, headlights, and fogs. I also made alot of progress on the bodywork. Let me know what you think.

Re: The Spyder and The GST

I havent really done much with this car. Kinda been waiting around until I get a tranny.

But, ...
I'm pretty sure I found one that I want. I'm supposed to go get it this weekend. Just gotta talk to my brother tn to see what his work schedule is, since he is the one with the truck. I will keep you guys informed.

Re: The Spyder and The GST

I also redid the headliner last night. Never done one before. I went to an upholstery shop and the real headliner material was $28 a yard....F that. Went to walmart and bought some black material for $3 a yard. Also encorporated a raised mitsubishi logo into the headliner. Let me know what you think. I will get some better photos of it im the car.
Forgot to take a pic before I ripped the carpet off, so I just layed it back on there lol.

There was a bunch of foam mess that wouldnt come off so I had to scrape it off with a wirebrush.

Re: The Spyder and The GST

Thanks. It actually looks perfect. Its hard to tell all the details in the pictures from it being black. But yeah, its free of any imperfections at all. No wrinkles or anything. It was alot easier than I thought it would be.
