1992 Bravada Can I use a different transmission?

I have a 1992 bravada with the 4.3 vortec and a notworking 4l60, I'm thinking I'll get another tranny from a gm vehicle it was used in alot of different applications, from the junkyard this weekend and have my buddy who works at a trans shop change out the output shaft pieces where it couples with the transfer case. It will only cost me about 190 bucks this way. Anyone know if this will work? I plan on using one of the same age range.

I'd say the odds are better since it's not an electronic transmission with shift solenoids.
Your buddy knows if the swap will work.

when i swapped the 4l60 in my astro van with a junk yard one the biggest problem was with the shift linkage. keep the old one around until the job is done, you might need some parts off it. also the speedometer cable gear was wrong, way off. took awhile to track down one that was close enough.
