'00 Bonneville with weird steering

Just bought a '00 Bonneville SSEi and the car would dart from side to side when you hit a bump and would veer right and left at will. I would too often find myself too close to the double yelow. Alignment fixed the steering issues but I have noticed a"deadspot" in the steering. It definately is taking some getting used to. The dealer service dept says the play in the wheel is normal wear of 67000 mi on the rack and pinion. The jury is still out on that one, I'm not sure I believe that the rack and pinion is worn that much in 4 yrs and only 67000mi!!!
