99' crown vic, Vibrations?

I have a 99' crown victoria police interceptor. The car is very fast... When i stomp down on the gas pedal and it hesitates right before it takes off, There is a large vibration all through the car and it loses power, the vibration might last a split second or it might do it for like a full 4 seconds. It might do it more than once as your speeding up too. after the vibration stops, the car keeps speeding up no problem. It also takes a long time to switch gears, from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th. its like its slipping as its changing in between the listed gears... Can you guys tell me whats up or if this is common in these cars? Thanks, KT

YOU need to take this car to a mechanic and pull any error codes from the engine. Have them clean the MAF sensor and change your spark plugs to Ford motorcraft plugs gaped at 54.Do not change the plugs your self because if they have never been changed you could strip a plug removing or installing the plugs. Does this engine have the updated intake with a alumium water cross over tube??? If not your just waiting for the intake to break as ford had a recall on all plastic intakes and replaced them for free. Warrainty coverage was 8 years or 100,000 miles. If the intake needs replacement buy a PI intake and you will gain 15 horse power .

I'm gonna go get the error codes ran off, didn't know you could even do that with this. The car is so simple and industrial like. Its the police interceptor model. I'll make sure the intake isn't plastic and i'll have the spark plugs changed too. Thanks for the help man, KT

If the department never had the plastic coolant crossover fail, it's likely still the plastic crossover. It is not free, you will have to pay for a new one so it's up to you. I just switched mine last summer to one with the aluminum crossover but had no indication if imminent failure on the old one at 95k+ miles.

But regarding your issue, get codes read. If any come up, tackle those. If not, clean your MAF, check for vacuum leaks, and check the plugs and COPs. Don't worry about stripping the threads. Just be sure to torque them down to only 16 ft-lbs of torque with NO anti-seize or oil on the threads.

Well, i had the codes read like 10 minutes ago, no errors found. I'll clean the MAF sensor. I'm gonna switch out the spark plugs as well. I'll make sure that the coolant crossover thing has been switched with the new one. If not, i'll do it myself.
