95 Escort Transmission TX to TJ
I'm replacing the transmission in my 95 1.9 AUto Escort. Apparently there were two different transmissions used that year, the TX and the TJ. TX (which I have) is a 3.55 and the TJ is a 4.03. SOmeone said I can swap them is this true?

Re: 95 Escort Transmission TX to TJ
I think so.. I hope so
My 96 has the TX as well.. TJ's are cheaper, and have a lower gear ratio. I just blew up my second TX and im going to get a model TJ.. Hopefully someone else can answer.. But I am pretty sure they interchange. -Scott |

Re: 95 Escort Transmission TX to TJ
I have a 95 Escort wagon with the 1.9 engine also. I need to replace my transmission and the salvage yard needs to know which type I have, so I'm assuming it makes a difference. My problem is I don't know how to figure out which type I have. How did you figure out what transmission you have? Is the info on the door panel?...In the VIN? thanks for any input.

Re: 95 Escort Transmission TX to TJ
Transmission type and axle ratio is on the certification label on the left front door post.

It's also marked on the transmission in big letters that are clearly visible if you look in the engine compartment at the appropriate angle.

Re: 95 Escort Transmission TX to TJ
I'm curious as to which one would give better gas mileage.
