96 Buick Park Avenue
96 Buick Park Avenue. Cannot get the temp to adjust or switch.
Get heat only and it is constantly coming through the defrost (and floor). Although the controls work, but it will not switch. Always heat, cannot adjust the temp or switch to floor, mid, etc... The fan works. Is this a climate control issue? Where is it located, etc...? PLease advice, and thank you so much for your help!! |

Re: 96 Buick Park Avenue
The ducts are controlled by vacuum. There is a a/c programmer behind the glove box door with a host of vacuum lines formed into a manafold type plug. Check to see if you have vacuum at that plug. You will need to flip the glove box door down to access the programmer.

Re: 96 Buick Park Avenue
Good suggestion above, but you may want to start under the hood and check the vacuum line on the manifold as well as the reservoir & check valve. If you have good vacuum to the reservoir and it holds vacuum, typically you would have vacuum to the programmer under the dash. Check these first, then we can proceed with the next steps.

Re: 96 Buick Park Avenue
Thanks for the advice and help.
I did go behind the glove box and saw when I would adjust the temp and the "duct control" I was able to see that they moved accordingly. What I did find was that the rods that connect to the "valves" were not connected. I did get t he rods connected and they move now with the valves but I still cant get the mid to open, and it appears that it is not switching from floor to defrost effectively. SO I am wondering if there is a certain position on the rods? I have not been able to determine yet if the temp is adjusting accordingly.... It is obvious that I am onto something..... Is there a diagram or something out there that shows how these rods get prpoerly connected? Again, thank you for the help....I believe I am heading in the right direction, but it is still not functioning properly.... Still working......... Ken Oh....I wanted to add that I will look into the vacuum lines, once I figure out where they are, etc... Last edited by goad; 03-13-2010 at 05:17 PM. Reason: Added my vacuum line comment |
