backyard special civic hatchback

I know you guys are probably getting sick of seeing civic hatchbacks and this is my 3rd but I just love this car This time around, going to replicate the BYS (backyard special) civic which consists of a front chin spoiler and controversial rear wing.

this is what it looks like:

http://i41.tinypic.com/15y9b14.jpg

I'm going with a red body and gunmetal panasport wheels.

the wing and chin is made from scrap sprues and covered in mori mori putty

primer and test fit with panasports

panasports with center painted flat gunmetal

body is now painted in Mr Color Red Madder red and clearcoated with 2k clear. roof has been polished and I'm still working on the rest of the body

I've also managed to lower the suspension so this should be a relatively quick build

Looking good, i see you didn't break any a-pillars yet! Becareful as they tend to break, i already broke three of them. The color came out sweet, and the overall look looks nice.

PS If you need any replacement parts for this build not including the body, let me know as i decided to put two of them away after i broke the pillars on both of them. No motivation to finish them off.

Re: backyard special civic hathback

How did you go about polishing it? Did you sand the clear coat then polish? It looks really good.

Recaros would look good as well.

Looks fantastic. The paint is gorgeous and I just adore red on EGs. I also personally love the BYS spoiler and front end so if anyone busts your chops, I'll back you up on it. I can't wait to see what else you've got in store for this!

Re: backyard special civic hathback

Midmazar, I learned my lesson after snapping 4 a pillars before. 1st thing I do when I open the box is throw on some 0.3mm strips behind those pilars thanks for the offer regarding the parts!

rhdmiklo, I clear coated it and then sanded with 2500 grit sandpaper. looks like I will go with the recaro seats

wilimo, thanks for the kind words! Its good to get support from a fellow JDM fanatic as well

Re: backyard special civic hathback

Nice I love the lip. Has any body ever noticed that they messed up the rear side window on these kits? It's too big. It needs to angle up a bit more on the bottom, and curve a little more on the back. I am too OCD...

Re: backyard special civic hatchback

mojo stevo, I never noticed that about the rear quart windows even after building 3 of these I'm just glad they actually have a kit of one of my favorite cars.

I decided to give the paint another week to dry, the side seems a little too soft for polishing. hopefully I can work on it this weekend and get the carbon fiber decals on as well.

Re: backyard special civic hatchback

here's an update on my BYS civic.

this is a resin cast of a spoon n1 muffler that I scratchbuilt before. I just chopped off the original muffler and replaced it with the resin muffler. the whole piping is painted in alclad chrome.

started the carbon fiber work! I used crazy modeller carbon fiber and they work great! they are a bit bright so a light coat of smoke should do the trick. I did the hood, rear wing and front chin spoiler and contemplating if I should do the trunk as well what do you guys think?

the rear wing was a challenge and I had to do it in 2 pieces

front spoiler came out ok
