Cool '02 Silverado Tow/Haul Question

Hiya,

I have an 02 Silverado 1500 4x4 with a 5.3. I believe it's an 3/4 ton (has the suicide doors).

Seems my Tow/Haul switch has decided to turn off and on at will. I can press the button on the shifter and it does nothing to turn it off (or on for that matter).

Sometimes, shutting off the engine will get it to go off and then, when you take it out of park, it goes right back on.

Other times when it comes on while driving, stopping completely then gunning it through the first three gears will get it off.

Other times still, it will come on and go off on it's own without me fiddling with anything.

It's been suggested to replace the shifter. But the guy says there is no guarantee that it's what is causing this issue.

Any thoughts?

Cheers!

the tow mode switch on the shift lever has a wire going to it this wire gets damaged...installed very tight...many have found that the wire shorts out in the shift lever area ...you will need to remove the plastic around the steering collum to locate the wire issue,,

Re: '02 Silverado Tow/Haul Question

Thanks for the reply.

I called the dealership and went ahead and ordered the shifter. 208.75 CDN plus about an hour to install it. Think his rate is 87 per/hr.

And then! I find an online store who sells oem parts and the part I need is 72 bucks! Even though that price is in USD it's still way cheaper. So, naturally, I get on the phone to order one from him but, nope, he can't ship to Canada.

keep looking ...dealership is too expensive....if you were to do this yourself all it "may" need is some electrical tape ...total cost 2cents..

Re: '02 Silverado Tow/Haul Question

dealership down here by me can get one for my truck for around $7x.xx but thats with me discount. And fyi, your truck is a half ton,
1500= 1/2 ton
2500= 3/4 ton
3500= 1 ton
if its 2wd its a "c" series truck, if its 4wd its a "k" series truck
