Re: F1 for sale in USA

The giveaway is the test saying "The car pictured is similar to the car we are offering, but a different color" - could be another silver one...

Yes, but so many are silver. If the car for sale were silver, why would picturing it give a clue as to the owner?

Re: F1 for sale in USA

The seller is in the USA - the car he is selling is in Japan and is not silver, or brown.

The photo is of chassis #029 which is on-again, off-again for sale as well.

From the add: "as well as the unique color of the actual McLaren F1 we are offering (as it left the factory) we have withheld the actual color of the car in this advert. " If it truely is unique, then it is unlikely to be a silver one.

Now assumption time

ASSUMING it is actually a 1995 and not a rebadged Ameritech one, we get these:

1995 (26 cars built)
01R - Silver & Orange
02R - Dark Blue & Silver
03R - Red & White
04R - Dark Blue & Silver
033 - Base Silver
031 - Special White
037 - Special Silver
05R - Black & Orange
06R - Yellow & Dark Green
07R - Blue & Dark Silver
028 - Grand Prix Red
036 - Pale Blue Metallic
08R - Dark Blue & Silver
038 - Base Silver
039 - Brazilian Brown Metallic
09R - Black & Grey
042 - Base Silver
040 - Magnesium Silver
053 - White
043 - Black Metallic
044 - Base Silver
045 - Dark Silver
046 - Genesis Blue Metallic
10R - Red
050 - Magnesium Silver
XP1LM - Historic Orange

Eliminating XP1LM and the GTR's, we get the following. Eliminating Double-Up colours:

033 - Base Silver (SAME AS #042)
031 - Special White
037 - Special Silver
028 - Grand Prix Red (SAME AS #004)
036 - Pale Blue Metallic
038 - Base Silver (SAME AS #042)
039 - Brazilian Brown Metallic
042 - Base Silver (SAME AS #038)
040 - Magnesium Silver (SAME AS #050)
053 - White
043 - Black Metallic
044 - Base Silver (SAME AS #042)
045 - Dark Silver (SAME AS #012)
046 - Genesis Blue Metallic
050 - Magnesium Silver (SAME AS #050)

Leaves us with these. From other threads:

031 - Special White (Recap Japan - In Japan)
037 - Special Silver (Recap NA fleet: More than 1 owner)
036 - Pale Blue Metallic (Recap NA fleet: More than 1 owner)
039 - Brazilian Brown Metallic (Recap RestOfWorld - in Mexico?)
053 - White (Recap RestOfWorld - in Middle East?)
043 - Black Metallic (Recap Japan - In Japan)
046 - Genesis Blue Metallic

Means we have a winner:

046 - Genesis Blue Metallic

BUT, this appears to have been in the UK. Can it be this car?

So if it was an Ameritech car, we get these chassis numbers:

#042 (Multiple owners)
#044 (Multiple owners)
#045 (Multiple owners)
#055
#062 (Multiple owners)
#067 (Multiple owners)
#074

So it would have to be one of Ralph Lauren's cars. BUT neither of his are unique (in fact, both are the same colour!) So unless it is #046, I am stumped

Any ideas?

Re: F1 for sale in USA

It's not a US car. It is a 1995. The color is "Special". It is not #043.

I can't be anymore obvious without saying it I guess, so it's chassis #031.

We also saw it in the background of a video at the factory when the auction winner of #065 was there to pick up his car at the end of 2008, so that jives with the listing where it mentions the car was at the factory for servicing within the past two years in case anyone has doubts.

Darn, I had narrowed it down to #031 or #43 from Japan, chose the wrong one to guess....

Re: F1 for sale in USA

You get points for trying. I certainly could have saved you a lot of effort by mentioning it was a Japanese car sooner. I haven't been near a computer for what feels like a couple of days though.
