Front axle seal!
Hello, got a new problem now. The other day my rear end locked up on me. I called AAA to have it towed, and they brought a flat bed, and dragged it on. When they tried to get it off, no luck, they tried putting it into 4wd to back off, well they blew my font axle seal. Got rear end fixed, now trying to fix this. I'm not able to get the axle out of the pumkin. We banged on this for hours, and its not budging. Is it possible that it is siezed in there. What do I need to do?? New axle, and pumpkin?? Calling AAA monday to file some kind of complaint, I think the tow company should be reliable for the seal problems, since the brought flatbed, not a recker. Please help if you have any suggestions.

Re: Front axle seal!
Are you trying to remove the CV joints / half shafts? What seal is leaking? What have you taken apart so far?

Re: Front axle seal!
I'm trying to change the axle seal, where the cv axle goes into the pumkin, can't get get shaft out, banged and banged on it, won't pop out. THinkin it may be seized in there.

Re: Front axle seal!
Have you removed: the caliper, brake rotor, separated the outer tie rod end from the knuckle, and separated the lower ball joint from the knuckle, and removed the spindle nut? Those things must be done so the outer CV joint can be removed from the hub/bearing before the half shaft will come out of the differential.

Re: Front axle seal!
There's a cir-clip on the splined end of the inner CV joint that holds the axle in position. Using a drift held horizontally and as close as possible to the base of the tulip, rap it with a hammer, it should pop out. If not, two big screwdrivers or pry bars oposite each other on the tulip will do the trick.

Re: Front axle seal!
Ok, will try that too, but whats the likelyhood of it being seized in there? I find it hard to believe. But thats what my buddys dads telling us. I've never heard no noise, or never had no leaks until that damn tow truck driver blew the seal out tryin to get it off the flat bed. Can't wait to call AAA tomm to see if there gunna pay for this fix.

Re: Front axle seal!
Anything is possible, but I've never seen one seize, come out hard, yes, but never seize. It has axle fluid circulating and flowing over it, I seriously doubt it could EVER seize.
