no power

i have a 98 s-10 4.3 auto and upon acceleration the motor just bogs down. i thoguht it was a fuel isue, it has same reaction as a bad fuel filter, but checked the fuel pressure and it was 53. could it be the cat?

Fuel pressure is too low. Key ON, engine OFF, fuel pump running, fuel pressure must be 60psi to 66psi and must remain above 55psi for 3 to 5 minutes after the fuel pump shuts off.

Sounds like a vacuum line. Check to make sure they're all attached.

Possibly a dirty MAF sensor. Take it apart and clean it. Just let it dry for a while before plugging it in, if any liquid drips on the wires it will damage the sensor.

If you checked fuel pressure with the engine running, check it like old master said. Then go drive it with the gauge taped to the windshield and watch it as the engine bogs down. It should never go lower than the reading at idle, except maybe during decel. Occasionally the pump will fail to deliver enough flow to hold pressure under high demand conditions.
