98 ranger overheating and passenger side soaked

Its been doing this for a little while. I've just been putting water in instead of coolant because thats what my Dad said to do. I have to fill it up with water every time I want to go somewhere and by the time I get there its already gone. Any ideas?

If its leaking inside the cab the heater core must be rusted out. Try pulling both heater hoses and plugging them if the leak stops buy a new or junk yard heater core.
A rough job in this weather.

sounds like your heater core is leaking. not a good idea to keep putting just water in it if it gets below freezing where you live. sometimes changing a heater core is tough

It's definitely a busted heater core. Not an expensive replacement, but a pain in the ass job! First, remove the glove box door assembly. The heater core will be mounted to the inside firewall behind a cover that has screws.. And some of them are a pain to get to. Older ones are simpler. If it's too big a job, at least by then you'd have it started for the mechanic! Any roadside service shop can change it. No need for a dealer trip! Get the heter core and some new hose clamps and possibly heater hoses from autozone!
