Are Performance Modules a SCAM?

I bought a "Performance Module" off the internet for $69.95 thinking that it was an IC chip that connected to the ECM. It was refered to as a "chip." What I got was nothing more than a resistor with a potentiometer switch that is supposed to take the place of the AIT probe. Hell, I could have gone down to Radio Shack and put one of those together for about 6 bucks! Basically, all it is is a 32 Ohm resistor with a little bit of adjustment for "Economy" or "Performance."

So now I got really curious and bought another Performance "chip" cheap off eBay. Same thing...just a resistor in disguise. How can these people advertise the resistors as "Chips." But I do have one question?....Has anybody burned valves using these glorified resistors that lean the engine out?

Yeah you got ripped off. Return it for a refund. If they won't refund your money then file a complaint with eBay. But don't wait because there is a time limit of I think 90 days.

Here's a DIY write-up for the IAT modification.
