Looking for ScanTool alternative...

Alright here is my question...Is there anything for mechanics out there that will act like say Snap-On's SolusPro but will cost much less and just hook up to a laptop?

I like the SolusPro, but I don't have the money for that setup. I'm moving to Europe from the states so I'm looking to make a Diagnostics Scanner with the same or similar features as the SolusPro, but without the price tag and that will have European vehicles as well as Imports and Domestic.

I'm thinking there should be some kind of software bundle as well as the plugs that would give me the ability to turn my laptop into a Diagnostics troubleshooter. Am I wrong? Does anyone know of any such thing? It would be of great help! Thank you!

Re: Looking for ScanTool alternative...

I've not heard of any laptop software that will allow access to items other than the powertrain diagnostics. I guess that makes sense too, I don't imagine many professionals want to lug around a large laptop when diagnosing issues, plus the ruggedized laptops would cost more than the scan tool anyway.

Have you checked eBay for the SolusPlus, OTC Nemesys/Genisys, etc.? You might be surprised by what you can get.
