08 Cobalt Wiring Question
Hi, The wiring on a 2008 Cobalt seems to be different than on earlier models. All the sites I go to, as well as the "12 Volt Resource" vehicle color code CD I purchased, say there is a blue wire on the brake light switch to connect to, when installing a remote starter. Mine has a different style switch than the one I've seen on a picture of a 2007. It had a blue wire. The wires on my 2008 are white, yellow and brown and none of the wires show 12 volt when the pedal is pressed, even with the ignition turned on. It seems to be a pedal position sensor rather than a plunger switch. The pin locations for the wires on the BCM seem to be in different locations also. Does anyone know where to get reliable information?

Re: 08 Cobalt Wiring Question
The most reliable information is the authorized GM shop manual, available from HELM. Try your dealership, they might be willing to print out the page you're looking for.

Re: 08 Cobalt Wiring Question
Be careful. 99% of EVERYTHING in your car is operated by the BCM. Messing around with it could cause a very expensive mistake. You are correct in that the brake switch doesn't directly control the brake lights. You gotta go to the BCM. It is a white wire @ connector #1, pin 31 and I think it won't test unless the car is running as well. You could run a wire from the tail lights too.

Re: 08 Cobalt Wiring Question
There is no brake pedal position switch but rather a brake pedal position sensor; for that car has 3 wires. a white 5 volt power wire from the bcm. a brown grd wire back to the bcm and a yellow brake pedal position signal wire that goes back to the bcm.
You can get a a 2 way factory remote start installed (which is usually cheaper than after market kit install) and involves little or no wiring cutting or splicing but changing and programming of the remote control door lock reciever and rcdlr antenna, hood latch and hood pin switch. |
