Door Ajar Chime and Dome Light On
I have a '99 Ranger 4.0L. When I insert my ignition key, the chime and dome light come on and the door ajar indicator also comes on. However when I start the vehicle both warning devices go off. The correct sequence is suppose to be that when I open the door the dome light comes on but should turn off after I close the door. If the door is open or ajar however, soon as I insert the ignition key, the chime will go on, the dome light stays on and the warning "door ajar" appears on the panel. This does not happen if I come in on the passenger side so I suspect that the driver side door switch is hanging up or inoperative. Does anyone know where this switch is. I can't find it to save my life. Thanks.

Re: Door Ajar Chime and Dome Light On
On my 97 its right at the latch inside the door. I had to remove the inside panel and go in blind. I've had to put one in each door. A light and mirror help.

Re: Door Ajar Chime and Dome Light On
Shoot some penetrating lube in the latch and open and close the door a couple times, Repeat until the light goes out. If it doesn't go out that it would be worth pulling the door panel and investigating further.

Re: Door Ajar Chime and Dome Light On
I finally found the section in my Repair Manual describing the location of the switch. Also just as you suggested, I noticed that the latch was hanging up when I activated it with my screwdriver, I sprayed it good with Lectra Clean got all the goo, lubricated it with Lithium lube and it works fine now. Did it on the passenger side also. Saved me from opening up the door panel.
Thanks to both. |
