'83 ranger dies easily

Hi,
We got a manual 1983 Ranger, 3.2 engine. Just lately it has been SO easy to flood when starting. Then if you get it going, sometimes will barely stay running, you have to stay in an abnormally low gear to have any power to go up hills (and even in 4th gear it feels like it has no power, like it doesn't want to go over 40mph), and often it dies whenever you have to stop.
Does that sound like an oxygen sensor? Or any other suggestions are most welcome. Thanks in advance!
