94 Ram 2500 Auto to Manual?

Is it possible to convert my 94 2500 Cummins from Auto transmission to Manual? Is it worth it? Will I run into huge issues?

I'm thinking about doing it, sick of this thing not shifting right.

What all am I looking to change? Just looking for a few answers before dropping the bucks and diving into it. I'd like to know if it will be a time waster even if I get it all together.

PCM is different, starter is different (6spd/ 5spd), Theirs an adapter on the crankshaft that you will need to get, clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder, etc...

Unless you just really want a manual... It would be cheaper to have the automatic rebuilt.

Well that answers my question.

I just had the transfer case literally fly apart on me too... Even if I get a new transfer case and the transmission rebuilt, will it even be worth it? It seems to just have so many problems and I really don't want to pour this much money into it...

I've advertised it for $3,000 a few times but nobody even called me about it, now the transfer case went out and I don't know how I'll ever sell it.

Got anyone like greenleaf or a good junkyard around? might have a used one for a few hundred dollars with a transfer case. Or even on craigslist.

Your still gonna have way more $ in a swap.

I've gotta have the tranny rebuilt, and get a new transfer case on it. I have a lot of work to do on the truck and not sure if its worth it anymore to be honest.

Why do you have to get it rebuilt? Find a trans/t-case combo somewhere, save yourself some money.

It doesn't shift properly, it barely ever goes into overdrive when its supposed to. It tops out at 65 MPH at red line.

I have heard so many problems people have been having with the trannys, I don't want to have to get another one anytime soon, do you think getting a combo would really save me in the long run? Or will I be replacing the transmission again.

Re: 94 Ram 2500 Auto to Manual?

Rebuilding is gonna cost more.

Find a "good" junkyard that will give a warranty (normally 90-120 days)
You'll be able to tell if the transmission is good.

Hmmm sounds like a plan. I'll try to find both.

Or if you have another vehicle to drive, park the Ram untill you can save some money up to rebuild or replace the transmission and transfer case. Its hard to find a good 12 valve Cummins truck these days.. You'd be foolish to sell it.

I've got it parked in the garage right now. It sucks I can't go out and play with it right now, we just got 14 inches of snow dumped on us and it would be a lot of fun to drive through.

I still have my Jeep, so I'll just save back to get everything it needs.

I've seen a lot of guys ask that question and when they really look into what it would entail, none of them do it. As a matter of fact, being in the position I'm in, I've seen the question aksed literally thousands of times, but never have once seen it done. You're better off leaving it or building up your auto..
