Plese Guys , Help me with this mustange GT question
Hi, I need some real help. I am getting the run around at my local Ford dealership, and being a girl does not make it better. I have a 2001 Mustange GT with less than 15,000.00 miles on it. This car is treated like a queen to say the least. the One day I tried to start it, but it would not completely turn over, worried about it and I had it towed at once. My Ford dealership told me it was the pcm= powertrain controle module, OK, the bad news is The Ford dealership said they can not located one in the whole United States, this has to be a bad joke, but I am not laughing. The Ford dealership told me its nothing more they can do, its up to me to locate this pcm. Guys where! My question is will any other pcm off a wrecked mustange gt of the same model match. Please help me, surely somebody out here has come across this.....Thank you some much

Re: Plese Guys , Help me with this mustange GT question
Find a decent independent mechanic and get a second opinion. Generally dealerships are an expensive choice for service once the warranty is up.
In this situation, the dealer simply is not being truthful. If it is the PCM, rockauto.com has rebuilt ones for $200 plus shipping and core charges. However, imho you need to find a good, honest and competent independent mechanic with experience in late model Ford electronics, and get a second opinion. Without additional information, there are many situations which result in a no-start situation. I suggest to ask friends and family where they take their older cars. If that does not pan out, approach a local Mustang enthusiast club in your area and see who they can recommend. Here is a link for one which just might be nearby. http://upstatemustangclub.net/ |

Re: Plese Guys , Help me with this mustange GT question
Welcome, dream of mine (nice name, btw).
You are a girl, and while it may not help you at the dealership, but perhaps you can try diagnosing some issues yourself. You already joined this forum and asked for help - that's a big step. I don't know if the car is in your possession now or the dealers, but if you have the opportunity now to look under the hood, it can be quite helpful and may save a lot of money. If you want help with that, let us know and we're more than happy to help diagnose the issue and walk you through fixing it. Like MagicRat said, rebuilt PCMs are available online. You may need to specify the PCM version. It is a 4 character identifier, usually located between the driver side door and the body. If the PCM really is the problem, it's easy to replace yourself with minimal tools. But I really suspect something else is the problem. Check for what's lacking first - fuel or spark. Turn the key to ON, listen for the fuel pump to turn on for a few seconds (whine from the gas tank). If that's working, then check for spark. Might take a bit more work with a multimeter if you can get one, but worth looking into before spending the money on the wrong part. Take it to a trusted mechanic for a second opinion before buying anything if you can't figure it out yourself.
