1988 deville transmission cooling lines.

Greetings, I own a 1988 coupe deville with a 4.5 liter eng. NICE CAR, JUST NEEDS SOME MINOR STUFF. The tranny cooling lines have rotted away, and I need to replace them. One is an easy fix but the other one has some kind of
switch on it. Caddy says the lines are discontinued. Any idea where I can try and locate these parts? My local junkyards don't have it. Thanks for you help. AL C.

I believe the switch is a trans temp sensor, if you cannot section the line around this it can be eliminated but of course you would not know if the trans temp was too high. BTW I lived in Bellmore for 25 years. And S & K did the machine work on pictured race car.

This problem is easy to fix. Any decent auto parts store will carry straight pieces of steel line, complete with flared ends and fittings, in assorted lengths.
You can measure the length of the existing lines. Then remove one section of line and a fitting. Go to the auto parts place and have them match up the tube size and fitting type. Note, there are metric flares and fittings and SAE style. They are not interchangeable, so get the same type as what the car came with.

Then get the needed sections of tubing in the correct length. If its a few inches too long, thats okay.

Next, bend the new line to closely match the original piece. You can bend the line with your hands, but do not kink the line. You can bend then around some food cans to get the right radius and curve.

Then remove the old lines and install the new ones. If you are lucky, the original mounting clips will be re-usable.

Thanks for the reply. Thank god we found a car in the junk yard that may have my lines. Have to wait for the snow to clear.
